MWUA News

Attention MWUA Membership:

Your assistance is needed in communicating with legislators.  As the 2023 legislative session winds down, uncertainty remains regarding the fate of the funding for SFY 2024-2025 State Match for the Drinking Water and Clean Water State Revolving Funds (SRF). Although the current budget proposals include adequate funding, all funding proposals are being heavily scrutinized and subject to being cut.

Who to contact. To ensure that water and wastewater infrastructure needs are fully funded, we need you to reach out to key members of the Legislature and urge them to “Fully fund water and wastewater infrastructure, including Part MMMM of the Governor’s budget change package.” Every one dollar of State funds returns $5 in federal funds. Maine can access federal funds at historic levels but only if we are able to secure the necessary State Match.

Please email or call your local legislators as soon as you can and ask them to reach out to their respective leaders and Appropriation Committee members about fully funding water and wastewater infrastructure. You can find the contact information for your local representative here, and the contact information for your local senator here.  AND

Please reach out to legislative leadership and members of the Appropriations Committee directly and ask them to fully fund water and wastewater infrastructure. We have included email and phone contacts for members of Legislative leadership and members of the Appropriations Committee below.
